Porcelain Bomb Productions Debuts THE HUMBLE ASSESSMENT

Porcelain Bomb Productions is proud to present Kris Saknussemm’s latest play THE HUMBLE ASSESSMENT as a featured part of the Las Vegas Fringe Festival at the Las Vegas Little Theatre June 1 – June 9.

This is the play’s first American performance, following a very successful world premiere in Australia, which The Melbourne Age reviewed as “Highly disturbing, highly entertaining, and extremely well-crafted.”

The play, which has been published in the U.S. by Lazy Fascist Press, tells the story of a lonely middle-aged man named Richard Humble who is desperately seeking employment with a large anonymous corporation. Dutifully reporting for his interview for the Financial Controller position, he finds the interview process more like an interrogation and a profound challenge to his dignity—and in the end, to his sense of what is real.

Playwright Kris Saknussemm was the Gallagher Fellow last year at the Black Mountain Institute of UNLV. He is the author of ten books that have been translated into 22 languages. His dramatic works have been performed in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Israel, as well as America. He has won First Prize in the Missouri Review’s 10 Minute Play Competition.

Of THE HUMBLE ASSESSMENT he says, “I wanted to write a play that deals with the psychological warfare inherent in the job interview. It’s a kind of confrontation everyone can relate to. Today, the crisis has just gotten that much worse, and to even get an interview is seen as a kind of blessing. From that basic and highly topical social issues premise, the more surreal aspects of the play emerge, and we realize we are witnessing a very personal nightmare.”

Sometimes hilarious, sometimes darkly brutal and menacing, the play has been praised for its blend of gritty David Mamet-like realism and the absurdity of the European avant-garde.

THE HUMBLE ASSESSMENT features a rare appearance from designer/director JMDF. Mark Brunton, winner of the Review-Journal's 2008 actor of the year award, stars as Richard Humble.

Take a voyeuristic romp through corporate hell.

praise for Kris Saknussemm's The Humble Assessment:

"At once, names like Ionesco, Beckett, and Albee come to mind,
but then are topped by the understanding that this voice has an
even more unsettling, hard-hitting edge."
